Removeable Display "Pole Mount" Anemometer

This rugged anemometer with dual digital display handles speeds from 5 mph to over 125 mph. Comes with 25' (8m) of audio grade wire, with a 1/8" (2.5mm) jack connection to the display (unlike the Pole Mount anemometer which comes with exterior grade wire and no connector). The Vortex FlexWire anemometer is great for mobile use where AC power is not available. Pole not included.

The jack connection and flexible wire make the unit more suitable for mobile use than the standard Pole Mount Anemometer, whose exterior grade wire is more rigid, and which does not include a connector. You can mount this anemometer to your own pole or roof bracket, bring the wire in through a window or some other hole, and stick the display on the glass, a window, or anywhere you want. Connect the display and Voila!

The Vortex FlexWire portable anemometer includes a high quality, Cateye Velo8 brand bicycle computer to display wind speed. It also captures and stores MAX and AVERAGE wind speed. Calibration has only been verified from 5 to 50 mph. (We did not find a wind tunnel with 150 mph calibration facilities!) Battery life is around 1,000 hours of continuous use. Some anemometers we tested on our home lasted for well over a year on the original battery!

Please note:

Important Note About Average Wind Speed:

  • Since bicyclists do not want their average speed to be diminished when they come to a stop, the computer will only record and average when the wind is blowing. It stops recording below approximately 1 mph. That means that if the wind blows for 2 hours at 20 mph and 2 hours at zero, the average shown will be 20, not 10! Please keep this in mind for your desired use of the Vortex anemometer. *
  • * WORKAROUND: if you want to know the real average wind speed - even with spells near zero, do the following: reset the computer, note the time. When desired, simply divide the total number of wind "miles" on the display by the number of hours since reset.

Specifications:

3-Cup rotor. Reed switch/magnet provide 1 pulse per rotation.
Rotor Diameter:
approx. 6" (150 mm)
Speed Range:
approx. 3 mph to 125+ mph (~5 kph to over 200 kph)
Mounting Bracket:
Aluminum mounting bracket with 2 holes for screws, approx. 8" long. Designed to be mounted on top of a pole or bracket. Custom brackets available upon request (offset, for example)
Wire:
Standard length is 25 feet (8m), other lengths available on request, or wire can be extended using any 1/8" jack audio extension cables

A few months to over a year of continuous use, depending on wind conditions and mode of use. The display goes to low power mode when the wind speed drops to zero, or if removed from the bracket when not in use. Restarts automatically as soon as the display detects a pulse from the wind sensor.
